Introduction:
This CPD certified Safeguarding Children for Charities and Voluntary Groups course is designed to give staff and volunteers the knowledge and confidence to recognise, respond to, and report safeguarding concerns. Aims of the course:
By the end of this course, you will:
- Understand the legal framework that underpins safeguarding in the UK, including the Children Act 1989 and 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and Keeping Children Safe in Education.
- Be able to identify different types of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect) and recognise their signs and symptoms.
- Know how to respond appropriately when a child discloses abuse or when you have safeguarding concerns.
- Understand your organisation’s duties around reporting procedures, information sharing, and staff training.
- Learn how to contribute to a safeguarding culture through safe recruitment, policy implementation, and partnership working with families and external agencies.
Duration:
The course should take approximately 1 to 3 hours to complete, depending on your familiarity with the topic and the time spent reviewing case studies, scenarios, and video content.
Assessment Criteria:
Each lesson concludes with a short multiple choice quiz. All questions must be answered correctly in order to pass. You may rewatch videos and revisit content as many times as needed before retaking a quiz.
